  • Evolution of the Bel-Red Corridor

    May 28, 2009 7:30 am — 9:30 am

Last fall the voters of this region came out in force in favor of a $17.8 billion dollar transportation investment, including the extension of light rail to Bellevue and on thru the Bel-Red Corridor to Redmond. So how will that impact the 900-acre, large triangular shaped neighborhood between Bellevue and Redmond flanked by Bel-Red road and 520? Over the years, this large section of land has been primarily industrial, filled with warehouses and light industry. Virtually no housing or public amenities currently exist in this area. Hear from a panel of property owners, government and business, the history of the Bel-Red Corridor and how it became a light industrial corridor serving the Eastside for many years. Panelists will share their differing perspectives of the challenges and opportunities facing this long anticipated transformation as light rail and surrounding development begins to happen. It will include a lively discussion of the potential impacts of light rail on density, existing business, housing- both workforce and market-based, sustainability, and quality of life for business and residents of the Eastside.
